In May 2019 we launched a major upgrade to our tools. This overhaul included a completely new form design and data capture experience which we’ve continued to refine over the past 18 months, rolling out features like web collection, advanced media support, embedded forms, custom widgets, in-app messaging, and many more.

Please note: this announcement only applies to users who created accounts before May 2019 and have not yet migrated to the new tools.

Our "legacy" tools have served our customers well for over a decade but, as with any software, eventually it becomes too cumbersome to maintain old code. By discontinuing the legacy tools, we’ll be able to focus all our efforts on bringing our users more features and a more intuitive, secure and stable experience.

To give users who may still be using the legacy tools time to transition to the new tools, we will continue to support the legacy tools until the end of February 2021. During this period, we’ve made it possible to use both the legacy and new tools at the same time, on a project by project basis, so you can switch over gradually if you need to.

How do I start using the new tools?

If you still have access to any legacy projects, you can continue using the legacy tools for those projects until February 2021. However, when you create a new project, you’ll be given the recommendation to use the new tools from now on.

You’ll also need to ensure you field team have upgraded to the latest version of the Android app.

How do I know if a form is using the legacy version of the tools?

Simple! You’ll see a big warning in the console when you select a form that uses the legacy tools.

What will happen to legacy forms on 1 March 2021?

On 1 March 2021, any forms that leverage the legacy tools will be automatically closed, made read-only, and be removed from fieldworker handsets. Ensure any fieldwork being conducted using the legacy tools has concluded (and any pending data have uploaded) well before this date!

You will still have access to all the data captured via the console, but will no longer be able to modify, assign or create legacy forms.

Due to fundamental changes to how forms are structured in the new version of the tools, you won’t be able to convert legacy forms to use the new format automatically (or link legacy captured data to new forms), but if you need assistance in migrating your forms to the new tools, please reach out to our support team who will be glad to help you.

Although no one likes change, we can assure you that once you switch, you’ll never look back!
