Mobenzi Lockdown is an optional add-on that can be purchased by your Account Owner. It can be used to restrict what a fieldworker can access outside of the Mobenzi Gateway application. Once added to the account, any console user with the manage handsets permission will be able to activate or deactivate Lockdown for an individual handset or in bulk as required via the Handsets page

This article explains how to set up Lockdown on the handset when activated for the first time.

If Lockdown is activated for an existing handset, the fieldworker will be prompted to complete the Lockdown setup immediately (assuming they have network access). The fieldworker will have to complete the Lockdown setup before being allowed to continue using the Mobenzi app for fieldwork. Lockdown can also be activated when adding a new handset in which case the Lockdown setup process will be included during the initial installation of the Mobenzi Gateway application.

Step 1. Download and install the Lockdown plugin

The fieldworker will be prompted to download and install Mobenzi Lockdown during initial handset setup (if you activated it when adding the handset) or when you activate Lockdown for their handset for the first time. They must download and install the Lockdown plugin by tapping on the 'Download Mobenzi Lockdown' button and following the installation prompts.

Step 2. Complete Lockdown setup

Once Lockdown has been installed, there are two settings that need to be checked. The below two screens will only appear if these settings have not yet been set up correctly.

1. Lockdown must be given usage access to monitor other applications.

  • Tap on 'Allow usage access.'
  • Follow the instructions as shown. The exact steps may vary from one manufacturer to another.

2. Lockdown must be set as the default "Home" app.

  • Tap 'Set default home button'.
  • Follow the instruction as shown to set your 'Home' or 'Launcher' to Mobenzi Lockdown. The exact steps may vary from one manufacturer to another.

Once all settings have been correctly set up, the home page of the Mobenzi Gateway app should load automatically. A closed padlock icon in the top right of your notifications bar indicates that Lockdown is currently activated on this handset.
