Network Error (Android)

Reference Number: AA-00650 Last Updated: 2017-02-01 15:46

When checking for survey updates the user receives a “Network Error”.

Possible Causes

  • There could be poor signal in the area.
  • The device may have insufficient data or airtime.
  • The Date and Time on the device may be incorrect.
  • Mobile Data may be disabled and Flight mode may be enabled.
  • WiFi may be disabled.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check that you have signal. If you don't see an E,G or H at the top right of your screen next to the battery, it means that you do not have a mobile connection where you are.
  2. Ensure that you have sufficient data/airtime, you need a minimum of 2MB of data or ZAR2 (or equivalent) airtime. In South Africa the network providers give users a USSD code to check the data/airtime balance e.g. Vodacom *111*502# or MTN *141# or Cell C *101#.  Enquire with your network provider if there is a balance check code, if you are not located in South Africa. 3. Check the Date and Time as well as the time zone on the device is correct. (Figure 2)
  4. If you are using WiFi ensure it is enabled or that Mobile Data is enabled and Flight/Airplane Mode is disabled, go to 'Settings' and click on WiFi, Data Usage or Flight mode respectively to check. (Figure 3)
