Disable background GPS capture

Reference Number: AA-00583 Last Updated: 2016-07-08 17:03

If a device is GPS-enabled and its location is available at the time a survey is captured, the mobile app/plugin will automatically record the current GPS location (i.e. without the fieldworker having to manually record their position using an explicit GPS question). The location information will be included as part of the "Submission details" section which is automatically generated for each submission (which also includes the survey start and end time, language and other metadata).

The functionality to “Disable background GPS capture" prevents the location from being stored and linked to the submission, even if GPS is enabled on the device. This may be important where respondent confidentiality is paramount or in geographically sensitive areas where capturing this information may be restricted.

Please note that even if background GPS has been disabled, the application will still allow location to be captured if an explicit GPS question has been added to the survey.

You can disable background GPS from the survey designer by selecting Disable background GPS capture" from the "Advanced" panel on the right hand side:

You can re-enable GPS background capture at any stage should you wish.
